Welcome to Cloth Cat Animation, a skilled and experienced animation studio with expertise in the development, design and technical execution of content for broadcast series, commercials, games and web.

Founded in 2012, Cloth Cat Animation is now one of the leading animation companies in the UK and we’re based in the heart of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. We’ve worked on a wide range of 2D and 3D projects for clients all over the world, and our focus in on creating high quality character animation for all age groups.

Our projects include Luo Bao Bei (International Emmy nomination 2019), Shane the Chef, Olobob Top, The Rubbish World of Dave Spud, Toot the Tiny Tugboat and the award-winning Ethel & Ernest which was released in cinemas in 2016. We’ve collaborated on multiple projects with international partners and are one of the few studios able to handle a series from development all the way to platform delivery. We take a great pride in our creative ideas and our technical wizardry, bringing both together to provide unique solutions for our clients and making the best animation we possibly can.

Cloth Cat is a proud supporter of the animation community and regularly contributes to Animation UK, The Children’s Media Foundation, PACT, ScreenSkills, and a large number of local and national universities. We also sponsor the local Cardiff Animation Nights and were major contributors to the Cardiff Animation Festival, which celebrated its return in 2018. Cardiff has a notable history of animation production and Cloth Cat are delighted to continue this legacy for both Wales and the UK.

Our software agnostic approach to production means we use the best tool for the job. Whether it is pushing the boundaries of 2D or producing a top quality CG animated series, we don’t shy away from sticking to the one method or style. We are highly experienced in the use of CelAction, ToonBoom, Adobe Animate, TVPaint, Maya, Modo and After Effects. Underlying all of this, our ftrack production management and workflow software has integrated The Foundry’s HIERO and Thinkbox Software’s Deadline to build an advanced edit reviewing and automated rendering process workflow, allowing us to collaborate and communicate anywhere in the world.

Cloth Cat boast high end custom work stations and multi-site storage to ensure security of data. Our render farm has the largest base of CelAction licenses in the world and is designed to handle all animation software we use. Renders are automatically uploaded by ftrack and dropped back into the Hiero edit so we’re always reviewing the latest version of a shot or episode.

Thud Media is our interactive publisher and developer and has collaborated with Cloth Cat to produce apps and games for a number of our animation series. In addition, Thud provides website and social media support across a wide range of projects, including channel branding. Gorilla is an approved post production supplier to Netflix and BBC Worldwide and have produced the onlines and dubs for many of the shows we’ve been a part of. They have successfully completed the DPP file based delivery on-boarding process for BBC Network and BBC Wales as well as Turner, Disney, Sky, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
